In 2008 and 2009 the Dutch Fashion Foundation continued the Dutch Touch campaign in Milan. The Dutch Touch campaign has been operating since 2001 in significant fashion capitals such as Rome, Paris and New York, with the aim to reach out to other markets in order to introduce them to Dutch design. In collaboration with Modint Export and with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Dutch Fashion Foundation organized the Dutch Touch Milan trade mission to introduce Dutch designers to the Italian market.
With its base on the tradeshow WHITE, the main focus of Dutch Touch Milan was to support Dutch fashion designers in the embedment of their labels in the Italian and international market and concentrated on the presentations and sales of the collections to international buyers, agents and media.
After introducing Dutch Touch Milan at WHITE in February 2008 with the womenswear labels Spijkers en Spijkers and Klavers van Engelen, the Dutch Fashion Foundation returned in June 2008 to WHITE Homme with the menswear labels Francisco van Benthum, Hans Ubbink and Sjaak Hullekes.
In relation to the embedment of the Dutch Touch campaign and Dutch designers in the Italian market, the Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands invited the Dutch Fashion Foundation to be present during a dinner hosted at the residence of the Consulate General in July 2008. With a defilé in the garden of the residence, DFF presented the collections of Klavers van Engelen, Mada van Gaans, Marcha Hüskes and Mattijs to the invited guests; a select group of key players from the Italian media and fashion field.
From Thursday the 25th till Sunday the 28th of September 2008 Dutch fashion design labels Klavers van Engelen, Spijkers en Spijkers, Hans Ubbink, Marcha Hüskes and Mattijs presented their new spring/summer 2009 collections at the WHITE event. The campaign was festively opened with a celebration of Dutch fashion with tableaux vivants of the collections, drinks and an interior of Dutch design supplied by Rosanna Orlandi. WHITE organized a special area for the designers to present their collections to agents and buyers. The label Klavers van Engelen was again selected by WHITE to present its new collection with a catwalk show and a space on WHITE Club.
With a base of structural collaborations succesfully laid, the Dutch Fashion Foundation was able to return with Dutch Touch to WHITE Milan in January and March 2009 with the two womenswear labels Marcha Hüskes and Spijkers en Spijkers and at WHITE Homme with the two menswear labels Sebastic and Sjaak Hullekes.
In April 2009 the Camera Italiana Buyer Moda and the Dutch Fashion Foundation co-hosted a reception in the NHOW hotel during the Salone del Mobile design week to celebrate the inspiring relationship between Italy and the Netherlands in the fields fashion design and design. Beppe Angiolini, director of the Camera Italiana Buyer Moda and Angelique Westerhof, director of the Dutch Fashion Foundation addressed the invited guests. Special focus was paid to a selection of designers participating in the Dutch Touch Milan campaign; Spijkers en Spijkers, Marcha Hüskes, Sebastic and Sjaak Hullekes. Spijkers en Spijkers presented their new collection with a catwalk show at WHITE Club and Marcha Hüskes was invited to present her collection at Papaveri Showroom.
